Who am I kidding? This was a favor I was looking forward to calling in.
We took the guys out into town during the day to watch the parade celebrating the start of Little League season. This went really well until one of the passing firetrucks blew their horn and Martin lost his mind.
Martin posed for the cover of his 80s movie poster. Oh Baby! is a humorous romp through the life of a baby who has attitude to spare!
Along with his jovial best friend they ditch their day care and have a day on the town. Will anyone realize that there are two unsupervised babies roaming about? Their nemesis, Sheriff Dante sure will! It seems he's the only one in town on to their shenanigans!
When we got home we gave the boys their first taste of tree nuts with this almond butter toast. It went over well although their method of squeezing the toast strips with all their might makes for another added bit of cleanup.
Against our better judgment we thought we'd make the most of the afternoon by having a rare afternoon beer. I had this Hop Meadow IPA from Thomas Hooker Brewing Company.
And Jen had a 2012 Sofie from Goose Island Beer Co. It was a nice break from our afternoon tasks but when we returned to our laundry, dishes, organizing, running of baby clothes to the basement, and other general things we've been putting off we were quite sleepy.
Since we're always sleepy anyway it didn't make that much of a difference.
After having swept and mopped under their highchairs a mere eighteen hours earlier this is the havoc that the Wombats wreaked after just one feeding.
For dinner I fired up the grill and grilled this nice halibut steak along with some asparagus. I also made some mashed potatoes.
I decided to make the same thing for the Wombats. I cut up the asparagus nice and small, mashed up a cooked potato, and added a little fish. It could have been that we pushed them a little too late for dinner but they didn't seem able to eat this. They just kept spitting it out in hopes that we would give them their bottles and have done with this fiasco.
Afterward Martin began cracking up at the mere sight of his brother. This is a little less than two minutes but this lasted about fifteen minutes straight.
After dinner we settled back with a hockey game and I had this Boris the Spider Russian Imperial Stout from Spider Bite Beer Company. This was a really nice beer, a fine cap to a great day. I would be very eager to see what happened if they did a barrel-aged version of this beer in the future. It made for a wonderful after dinner interlude.
Now back to cleaning up Wombat droppings.

The beer no doubt inspired by the whimsy of John Entwhistle.
